Into the Archives 70-Bad Hair Idea

Another ancient selfie from yours truly. I thing I was trying to curl my hair with pipe cleaners. Yeah, great idea, I know. Back in the day when my skin was clean, my freckles were darker and I had braces. Such carefree times. *siiiigh*

This is the last ITA you will see for awhile. I will be taking a break for now but hopefully "season 3" will return sometime after my mission. If you really miss baby me, just go to youtube. There's plenty of laughs and awwws there.

Into the Archives 67-Little League Baseball Game

Baseball has been the family sport I've grown up with. Though I've never played it myself, my dad and a couple of my brothers have. I have attended many more Royals games than any other professional sporting event. Back in the day, the whole family and our fellow baseball friends would hang out at our brothers/sons games together. I don't think I really watched many of them but I was there to support while EJ and I planned our next adventure.

Into the Archives 52-Snow Creek

Another fun adventure with EJ: Snow Creek. A ski resort...in Missouri. Yes, downhill skiing, hill being the key word. No, we don't have mountains. You know, it's the best we have. But I had a blast. We spent the entire day there, starting with a short lesson on the very basics. The instructor thought we were sisters but we let that slide.
I spent several hours getting used to the bunny hill, then I braved the next biggest hill. I went down several times until I lost control and was sent flying, one of my skis popping off as I tumbled. I went back to the smaller hill and continued until I was exhausted. I still remember the gasps around me as I lost control again, this time both of my skis snapping off of my boots while I did whatever I could to stay out of the way of oncoming skiers. Although I wasn't hurt, I was a little shaken up and decided to call it a day.
And that was my first and only experience skiing. Yep, being a Midwestern has it's downfalls. Or lack of the down, really.

Into The Archives 48-The Farm

I've had this one friend who has been near and dear to me since we were about 6. As young kids, we spent a lot of time together (I can guarantee there will be plenty more posts about her). Some of my treasured memories are the handful of times when I went with her and her family to visit their grandparents farm.

They were always busy and fun days with tractor rides, feeding the cows, driving the riding lawn mowers and harvesting veggies like big sweet potatoes from the garden.
We would almost always stay the night so we had plenty of time for fun. When we got tired of being outside, we would play in the basement where there were lots of toys. Once we made a carnival with games and even a ride (aka, a mattress down the stairs).

Unfortunately, I don't remember quite as many details as I'd like. Just wispy memories. Take note children, write in your journal.

Into the Archives-25

8/18/2011

This trip I remember like it was yesterday. OK not quite but it was one of the most memorable for me so far.
Summer of 2007 we drove out to Utah for my cousin Andrew's wedding. After which we flew over to San Diego, CA for dad's business trip. We stayed on a resort and everything! (Paradise Point) It's one of the most gorgeous places I've ever been to.
When we first got to CA we stopped at the temple. I decided then that it was on my top 3 favorite temples list. I mean look at that! Beau-ti-ful. It looks like a castle out of a fairytale.
Then we stopped at uncle Val and Aunt Virginia's who are dads aunt and uncle. But all us kids really wanted to do was go see the resort! Well we got there eventually. We had a great week. There was the catered food for breakfast on the boardwalk & lawn and lunch beside the conference building, the pool, the pretty plants and the little stream out the back window and the beach...we were in the bay so the waves weren't quite the same as the real thing...but we searched for shells and had long jump contests in the sand. Our bungalow had two rooms. One for parents, one for kids. Great fun! While dad was at meetings we roamed around the resort or played in our room and when he came back we went to dinner.
One evening we went to the resorts outdoor restaurant. It was much like dinner and a show because of all the wild birds. As we ate the waiters sprayed the brave birds that came too close with a little spray bottle to keep them at bay. They got pretty close. You can't blame them. We had food and they didn't. As we got up one bird hopped up onto a chair ready to eat. Too bad there wasn't any food left for him.
This trip was probably the funnest I've ever been on. Although I love the mid-west, California might be runners up to where I possibly would like to live (if you take the living costs out of the picture etc).

6/23/2011

Some of the Briathwaite cousins in 2007.
I'm the one in the orange shirt.
I love all my cousins (I have already done 2 other ITA posts about some of them) and the 20 hour drive is worth it if I see them enough while I'm there. My cousin Andrew was getting married so we were there for a few weeks. That was a fun time!
(We found out that week that my dad was being called into the Bishopric. We weren't even there that Sunday when he was called!)

Into the Archives-10

 5/5/2011

Today I am doing something kind of different. I'm not actually in the picture. It's a paper version of me is!
In 2007 I did a project based on the book Flat Stanly. I made my own flat self and sent "myself" to Chile where my Uncle, Aunt and cousins (used to) live. They took "me" on a tour of their city. Here I am eying some sea food!
I have a bunch of extra pictures today!

P.S. Happy Cinco De Mayo! Hope you're eating good Mexican food today.
